Facebook and Twittter can get me a job??

In today's world us employees looking for jobs are not the only ones doing research on where and who we want to work for. Employers are also researching, but, they are researching the fellow candidates that think are qualified for the job opening. Shocking? I know!  According to socialtimes.com"If you’re looking for a job, Intricate recommends avoiding posts and tweets about illegal drugs, sexual posts and tweets, profanity, grammatical mistakes and pictures of you drinking.  Of course, you should probably try to avoid these things anyway…".  Recruiters are looking for the best candidate for the job opening which means that they need the best of the best to represent their company. Companies and fellow employers are not going to want their company being misrepresented due to employees having pictures of themselves drinking or having profanity as mentioned in the article. We might not think that this is a big deal but in the real world and in today's world it is. Believe it or not there are companies that do this for a living.


Are you wanting to go check your Facebook right now? Well don't be too worried because not all social media is bad! As I read through articles and searched for pictures I came across an article from the New York Times on how to get recruited with your social media. In  How To say 'Look at Me' to an Online Recruiter the issue was not trying to have little if not no information on yourself, it was more a less how much information do you have that will make your name stand out to recruiters searching online.  "How searchable am I? Some employers aren’t even bothering to post jobs, but are instead searching online for the right candidate...Not having an Internet presence can be damaging". Having social media such as Twitter and Facebook can actually be beneficial. "On Facebook, “liking” a company can mean receiving early notice of job openings and other news...More companies are turning to Twitter as a way to broadcast job openings, so you should use it to follow recruiters, industry leaders and individual companies, .". Knowing the benefits to having these social medias does not mean that you are guaranteed a job it just means that you are playing smart and getting more involved with a company which is what they are some what looking for in social media interaction.

Just remember all social media is not bad one just has to be smart on what they post and what they allow people to post about them. If you are smart, you will make sure that if you applying for a job you will have your social media up to date and will make sure your name will stand out in a good way and not in a bad way. We have to remember that technology is advancing very quickly which means that companies are getting smarter and more "picky" on who they want to hire for the job opening that becomes available. Now more than ever the job market is very competitive. Don't let your past ruin your future because you decided to act a fool by posting indecent pictures of your weekend. Trust me employers are looking!

        One last thing, if you are a business major and is trying to go into the business field I suggest that you be part of Lindekin. Lindenkin is a website that is being looked and searched from multiple employers that are looking for potential candidates to fulfill the job opening available. As mentioned in various articles, "The infographic also takes a look at the top social media sites for recruitment over time.  Unsurprisingly, LinkedIn tops the charts (it is, after all, designed for business networking)....The most-used social media site, when it comes to recruitment and hiring, is LinkedIn: 89 percent of U.S. businesses have made a hire through it, compared to Facebook at 26 percent and Twitter at 15 percent".

Overall these articles have opened my eyes in knowing that employers are looking further than just the application that you submit. They are also doing their homework in getting to know you with out you even being aware that your profile or updates are being looked at by a potential employer. I am going to be more aware and pay closer attention to what I post because I would hate to be applying for a job and not getting it do to inappropriate post, feed, tweets or even pictures.

Playground for an office???...ummmm YES please!



Organizational culture of GOOGLE

Many of us "employees" wake up grouchy, miserable, and already wanting to come home when we haven't even left the house to go to work. Wouldn't it be nice to wake up early and look forward to go to your so called "office" ? Well dreams do come true, Google offices are created in a certain way to cater to their employees. They are not your typical offices where you are in a cubical sitting down staring at a computer all day, they are much more exciting than that! Like mentioned in the article, Google has created an atmosphere to "...lure top tech talent to its Mountain View headquarters", and they have been very successful at it by taking a spot in the "Fortunes list of 100 best companies to work for".

 When it comes to Google organizational culture, they look for and hire individuals not based on there experience but based on who they are and what they have to offer the company with their abilities like said on google. com "We hire people who are smart and determined, and we favor ability over experience.Although Googlers share common goals and visions for the company, we hail from all walks of life and speak dozens of languages, reflecting the global audience that we serve".  Google believes that their employees should be comfortable in there work environment so they can be able to come up with new ideas and feel comfortable enough to share among st the other colleagues. Google, like mentioned in the article, is known as the "King of Corporate Perks", the offices of Google or should I say "Googleplex", is designed to cater to their employees. Googleplex has many things to offer such as FREE haircuts, on site doctors, Japanese toto toilets, endless lap pools, conference bike, Free meals (3), a giant ball pit, and of course a really nice pay check. 


Even though the Google offices may seem like a giant play ground, they still get down to business just not in a up tight way. It may seem that all they are doing all day is playing in giant ball pits and eating gourmet meals, but we have to keep in mind that thanks to these individuals we have google.com to answer all our questions and it is one of the fastest growing search engine.

These articles gave me the inside scoop on what really happens at the google offices and that people don't lie when they say that they have slides and play video games during work. Obviously this technique of creating a very chill, friendly, stress- free enviorment at the office has really worked and proved that the company culture has a lot to do with why they chose to do this.

If any one is interested to work for google and feel like there culture fits you, don't hesitate to become what they say a "googler", you never know you might be the one playing and eating gourmet food next week!
